Morning all!
I was watching Graham Norton last night interview Barry Manilow and was interested to hear him talking about how he had suddenly discovered, in the midst of having created a whole load of the songs that he was famous for, that he actually had very little money. He’d come from a background of not being used to money, and when the money had started coming had placed all his reliance on people who were “experts” in that area – to discover only too late, that his accountant/ money people had made poor decisions in that area.
The two points I wanted to bring out from this interesting interview were:
1. Barry Manilow said it wouldn’t have stopped him if he had to go back to nothing, because he’d been there before and knew he could go back and write jingles with the skills he had.
2. He’d not been paying enough attention to what mattered.
What does this mean
to your coaching business?
Action thought One – Do you know enough about what your own strengths and talents are, so that if things didn’t work out, you could go back and do what you loved and knew you were great at and get restarted as soon as possible? With the economy, it’s good to have knowledge about what your contingency plans are for your coaching business. Get your plans and vision straight in the first place, but also know what your fallback contingencies are.
Action thought Two – Are you paying attention to the right things?
What do you pay attention to in your coaching business? It needs to be a combination of elements for you to be truly successful:
Your marketing of what you do as a coach
Your business vision, plans and working on your business plans
Keeping a good business – admin and accounts
Continuing to grow as a coach through continuous development and study
Adding value to your clients by being the best coach you can be
Are you working on all of these? Know what you are good at and what needs attention? It’s worth checking out where your finances are and seeing what value each thing you are spending money on right now adds for you, or whether you can review payments that are going out.

**********************************************************************************What’s Claire up to this week?
This week I have been…feeling a bit poorly! Or as my poor long suffering other half said, I must be great at coughing now because I’ve been practicing so much! It’s been a good week apart from that though – thanks for those who completed my brand survey which has given me lots of interesting food for thought. If you haven’t already, you can take it here

I also went to a 2nd day of Search engine optimisation on Wednesday as well as to a couple of face to face networking events. And the highlight of my week? Putting my Christmas tree up, listening to Christmas carols, and chilling out on Sunday. One of my favourite days of the week just to be. Relax, have some fun. And the 2nd best highlight? Strictly Come Dancing! Drama, sequins, emotion – fabulous darling, as Craig would say!
